Interview (12.04.2015)
Vilma, you are the first Nordic Combined Lady I'm interviewing and I think my readers are just as excited as I am to get to know you! Can you please tell us when and how you started in this sport?
I started at the age of 6 years. I started nordic combined because my little brother Tuomas was also jumping at the Siilinjärvi Kuilu hills and I thought that this would be interesting to try out. Skiing and ski jumping was so nice that I wanted to continue the sport.
What do your friends and other people your age think about the fact that you are taking part in NC competitions?
I think that at the beginning the classmates felt that ski jumping is dangerous and especially the boys in my class said to me that it would be dangerous to jump from such a ski jumping hill. Nowadays my friends are cheering me when I'm going to take part at the NC competitions.
Let's talk about the Lidl-Cup a bit. You've been on the podium for a few times in 2014/15, are you satisfied with how the season went for you?
Mainly I'm satisfied, but there were also a few disappointments, for example Kuopio and the first day at Vuokatti. For the next season I have to do more practising in the area of skiing skills. I think that I did a good progress in the ski jumping skills. So I'm expecting more from the next season.
Also this year the NC world has seen it's first international FIS Youth Cup and Ladies competitions on snow. Would you like to compete there too in the coming winter? What goals do you have in this sport?
I'm interested about the youth FIS ladies competitions, but I think that I have to practise more before entering to this competitions. At the end of this season I just entered the K42 hill, and there is still a lot of work to do with the technique in this hill size.
And last but not least: do you also have any other interests than Nordic Combined?
I like dogs and horses very much and of course riding horses.
